Tax Return Notification on 5 October 2016

If you had any income or capital gains for the year ended 5 April 2016, and HM Revenue and Customs do not know about it, then you should tell them by 5 October 2016 so that they can send you a tax return to complete. If you miss this deadline, then it would be best to see an accountant.

This warning applies to private individuals and not to companies, but company directors may also have private income and capital gains to report. Salary as notified on form P60 does not require a tax return. If you have an accountant already, then he or she will ask you about anything you need to put on the tax return.
